Safety Guidelines for Excavator Operations on Inclines
Release Date:2023-12-29 Views:175

Excavators often encounter various working conditions, especially when navigating steep slopes. To ensure the safety of operators and related personnel and achieve efficient and secure operations on slopes at various angles, operators need to adhere to the following operational guidelines.

1.Observe Surroundings:

Before engaging in uphill or downhill operations, operators should carefully observe the surrounding environment, assessing whether the actual slope angle is within the excavator's controllable range. If necessary, material from the upper part of the slope can be shaken down to reduce the slope angle.

2.Fasten Seat Belt:

To ensure the safety of the operator, it is imperative to fasten the seat belt while operating. Adhering to good driving habits can effectively prevent unexpected situations.

3.Clear Obstacles:

When navigating slopes, obstacles around the slope should be cleared in advance to prevent the excavator's tracks from slipping.

4.Guide Wheels Leading the Way:

When descending slopes, ensure that the guide wheels of the excavator lead the way, keeping the upper tracks taut to prevent the machine from sliding forward under the influence of gravity when parked, which can lead to dangerous situations.

5.Lower the Bucket:

During uphill or downhill movements, lower the excavator's bucket, keeping it approximately 20-30cm above the ground to maintain stability and prevent sliding.

6.Drive Straight on Slopes:

When ascending slopes, drive straight up, avoiding turning on slopes to prevent overturning or sliding. Before driving, check the hardness of the slope surface, and regardless of uphill or downhill movement, ensure the operator cabin faces the forward direction.

7.Uniform Speed Descent:

During downhill movement, maintain a uniform speed, ensuring that the track's forward speed aligns with the speed of the raised arm to avoid excessive bucket support force leading to suspended tracks.

8.Avoid Parking on Slopes:

For stability, it is recommended to park the excavator on flat surfaces. If parking on a slope is unavoidable, open the digging arm (approximately 120 degrees) , gently insert the bucket into the ground, and place blocking material under the tracks to ensure stability and prevent slipping.
